2013 Central Indiana Walk to End Lupus Now

A Unified Purpose - Walk to End Lupus Now

The 2013 Walk to End Lupus Now is taking place right in our own "backyard" this Saturday at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park.

I was chatting with a friend today, and we both commented that almost everyone knows someone close to them with Lupus. She and I both have someone close to us effected. The Secretary of State Connie Lawson, who is chairing this year's walk, has six people (aunts, cousins and sisters) within her family affected. She was recently on IndyStyle speaking on Lupus and calling for individuals to join in the fight to End Lupus Now and build awareness. It's a often misunderstood and unpredictable chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body. The Lupus Foundation of America estimates that 1.5 million Americans have a form of lupus. Although lupus can strike men and women of all ages, 90 percent of individuals diagnosed with the disease are women.

Curious about Lupus and symptoms? See this video from Dr. Virginia Caine.

Registration begins 10/12 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 11 a.m. walk. This event is a half-day of fun, food and friendship with activities for the whole family to enjoy. The event is presented by the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter. Walkers can stroll the 1-mile route or walk the 5K (3 mile) route through beautiful Ft. Harrison State Park. There are no registration fees per se; individuals and teams gather donations that may be made online. I know most of October is pink for Breast Cancer awareness, but on Saturday help your fellow mamas out and wear PURPLE proud in support of The Walk to End Lupus Now.
