Two Ingredient Southwest Dressing Hack

I love southwest dressing on a salad, especially a blackened chicken salad or a taco salad. Do you remember The Fort Grille in beautiful Fortville? It was one of our favorite places to dine. I miss it so very much. It's now Lincoln Square Pancake House. Equally as delish, and we love having them in town, but there is one item they just don't have that this girl craves! ... a very specific southwest dressing.

To my delight before Chef Jamez and his team closed the doors of The Fort Grille last year, he let me in on a secret for his southwest dressing. He truly made my day! I make a version of his at home all the time now. Last night was cowboy taco salads at my house and yep, the star was the southwest dressing.

The best part is that it only takes two ingredients. Yep, only two.
  • Your favorite Ranch dressing
  • A small can of roasted Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce

Blend.

Serve.

That's it peeps.

Wandering Wednesday - Explore Carmel's Corner Bakery Cafe

Carmel's Corner Bakery Cafe won my heart at the mention of breakfast all day. I adore breakfast food, no matter the time of day. They drove it home, when they said made-to-order, seasonally inspired and always fresh. Really I'm in love, peeps, and I'm tweeting them weekly to bring one closer to me...maybe Hamilton Town Center. Sounds like a prime location to me. Hint, hint.

However, in the meantime, you may just find me typing away tackling deadlines from a cozy corner booth at the Carmel location on Sundays, while the Coach Man watches football and mans the littles at home. Absolutely love the cozy atmosphere, free Wifi and bottomless cups of delish hand-roasted coffee. The hazelnut is pure heaven.

My menu favorites so far...

Oh my the basil! I loved the Chicken Pomodori Panini. I'll be back often for that one. Also, the amazing, creamy and so crave-worthy Pesto Cavatappi. The great thing, peeps? You can get them both within a combo! Score! Win-win all around.

Oh and if I was being a good girl and eating like I should, they have gluten free choices too that are delicious. Plus tons of salad choices, both traditional salads and specialty salads too, like quinoa and pico.

Now here's the lucky part for you! I have Corner Bakery Cafe dollars to give away for you to be able to try it out too!

Here's how to play. Go check out their online menu and tell me what you'd like to try most. Comment here, on FB or tweet us at @FortvilleMama, include @CornerBakery. Make sure to use the hashtag #cbcindy and #flavormatters

Good lucks peeps. We'll pick 1 winner tomorrow at 9 p.m. EST. Contest is for Central Indiana residents only.

Mama Tip Tuesday! DIY Fall Wreath for Less Than $7!

Isn't fall in Indiana a wonderful time?

The smells, the tastes, the cold, but not too cold weather, the beautiful colors, pumpkin and apple spice everything. I can just drink a tall glass of it. Can you tell how much I LOVE FALL?

Know what else fall means? My marriage is interrupted by hunting season. While we both hunt, this year was was my husband's first time elk hunting. Yes, my husband went to Montana for 10 days. Leaving me with 3 kids under the age of 5. Luckily my in-laws came to stay with us for a few days in the luxury of their camper and helped quite a bit! However, by the 10th day I was ready to go crazy. I needed a little art therapy, and I also needed a way to tell my in-laws thank you.

I had stumbled upon an awesome find, burlap ribbon at Dollar Tree! Yes, not only did they have pink burlap but chevron too! For only $1! When I found it I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. A few searches on Pinterest gave me a good base on how to craft a unique gift!

You might need a crawling baby to give you a hand.

First I watched a simple how to video.

$1.50 after Micheal's 50% off coupon!
Okay, here is the supply list:
3-4 rolls of burlap ribbon ($1 each)
1 wreath hanger ($1.50 half off)
2 decorations ($1 each at dollar store)
Ribbon
Twist ties or wire
Scissors
Hot glue gun and sticks
After you finish the burlap, it's time to embellish. Use your hot glue gun to place small items. Flowers were wrapped around the wreath hanger wires. Then hang with ribbon!

A gift in a snap! Thanks to the Thomas crew for helping a mama make it 10 days with three littles on her own.

Mama Tip Tuesday! Breathing Life Into The Old

It's the rocker no one wanted. It might have become someone's firewood.

I saw it and instantly wanted it.

Every year since I was a little girl around Independence Day, we go to an Amish Auction in central Wisconsin. Not far from Wisconsin Dells. Back then I went for the fresh made from scratch donuts and cookies. Now I go for the "big girl" stuff that fills our home. My dad was watching the auctioneer sell off the antiques, and I told him I wanted the chair. He looked at me like I was crazy. He told me I didn't want it. It was worn and tattered. Once the auctioneer came around the the old tattered grandfather's rocking chair, no one could see it's beauty.

It sat in our storage room for a few years waiting for it's beauty to be uncovered. To be loved and adorned. Waiting for life.

My 2 girls wiped it down with Woodman's Soap and water. I took the seat padding off along with the nails. Then applied Tung Oil.

The Tung Oil saturated every crevice while the thirsty wood drank it in. The old grandfather's rocker had came back to life in all it's glory. The grains of the wood popped once again.

Might you have something hidden in storage waiting for new life? Maybe a fresh coat of paint or stain would bring it's inner beauty out of hiding?

Mama Tip Tuesday! Simple Smoothie Saving Hack!

Want to make healthy smoothies for your kiddos, but don't want to clean up the mess or the complicated cup?

As a mom of 3 under the age of 5, I am all about simplicity. I've spent way to much time cleaning messes and dealing with 6 pieces for ONE cup. I repeat ONE cup! These are the things that can make a Mama go crazy. Lets start simple. With a straw.

A straw modeled by our sponsor herself, Jamberry Consultant Lindsay. She does a great job of pointing the bendy end DOWN.

Just like so. I do believe that straw looks fabulous with those Waikiki Jams!

Then fill with a nutritious smoothie and give to your toddler or infant! Guess what!? They can't get it out!

Yep, it's Owen, Fortville baby proof!

Hollywood Comes to Fortville Indiana

Hollywood Comes To #fabFortville

Our very own, beloved local non-profit, Ten West Center for the Arts, will be the location for auditions for an upcoming Hollywood movie! From the creator of Final Destination, comes the new film, Car 86. Producers will be on on-site in #fabFortville and holding open auditions September 16th, 17th and 18th at Ten West.

The film is a modern body snatcher story with the heart of a car chase film. The film's hero, Steve, a Millennial, is lost in a post-collegiate world void of opportunity, until his childhood friends Jeremy and Emma unknowingly lead him into a reality outstretching his imagination. Their biggest problem? This world is inhabited by Janglings, a vicious race of alien body snatchers. While the alien’s mission is unclear, their intentions are not. Leave no witnesses. With the police force under enemy control, Steve and his friends must run for their lives while exposing the threat to the world.

The Producers of Car 86 are Indiana natives and excited to be back in town searching for talent.

What a phenomenal opportunity for our quaint town! I wonder if possibly they might even film a bit of the new movie in and around Fortville? We're a great location, right?! Maybe we'll get to be the "movie home" of Car 86 and rival our neighbor Knightstown for Hollywood fame? I'm up for it. How about you?

More details will be coming soon via Ten West, but below are the available roles:

Marcus - Mid-30s. He's your typical clean-cut police officer. His looks are by the book - crisp uniform, shaven, anywhere from fit to maybe just a tad overweight. But his attitude is the opposite.

Brandie - mid-40s, petite, messy and unkempt, but yet still attractive. Agile and athletic build.

Bateman - 30s, goofy, average height and looks. Funny and comedic timing necessary.

Blonde "Lady of the Night" - late 30s, white, worn down by a hard life. Clearly on something.

Transgender "Lady of the Night" (non-speaking)- 40s, African-American, tall and slender. Also, clearly on something.

Officer Whitfield - mid 20s, young and full of confidence. Handsome and your stereotypical young police officer.

Ill Dr. Phil - 50s, glasses and looks like a cheap version of a psychiatrist.

Larry - mid 30s, large and slightly overweight. Looks like someone who would attend Gen-Con. Works as a cashier in a convenience store.

Officer Mariano - male, mid 30s, fit and a by-the-book cop.

Officer Thompson - female, mid 30s, strong and powerful.

Reporter - news reporter, 30s, attractive and elegant.

Server- young 20s, works as a server at the local fast food restaurant.

Emma’s Mother - 50s, frail and sick. Clearly doesn’t get out much, a hermit.

Here is the link, if you would like more information or to submit your information for an audition.
